The plan is to explore a word at a time on the MFA journey. Today’s word is intersectionality…from Oxford Languages on Google:
“the interconnected nature of social categorizations such as race, class, and gender as they apply to a given individual or group, regarded as creating overlapping and interdependent systems of discrimination or disadvantage.”
Interconnected…overlapped…interdependent. Mixed media. I thought about myself as having multiple identities, but now I can see myself as living in intersectionality.
My art stands in the intersection of contemporary and traditional. Uses fiber and found objects. Combines multiple fiber techniques and materials. All deployed as acts of expression.
My nursing stands in the intersection of teaching and learning. Brings clinical issues to life in the classroom using stories and theater. Has been silenced by systems and by interprofessional devaluation.
Art will bring the silence of my nursing to voice.
